Clinical and Translational Awards
BU CTSI is part of the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program, funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Science. The program aims to speed discovery and advance science aimed at improving health. The national program encourages collaborative teams of diverse investigators to tackle complex health and research challenges and then find ways to turn their discoveries into practical solutions for patients.
The program supports a national consortium of 60 medical research institutions in 30 states and the District of Columbia. The BU CTSI shares a common vision and works with the consortium of medical research institutions to:
- Improve the way biomedical research is conducted across the country
- Reduce the time it takes for laboratory discoveries to become treatments for patients
- Engage communities in clinical research efforts
- Train the next generation of clinical and translational researchers
As part of the national consortium, the BU-CTSI will enhance the development of healthcare practices available to members of the local and national communities.

The CTSI has an External Advisory Board that meets annually. These meetings provide the CTSI leadership with an opportunity to update the board on the Institute’s activities and progress, and get feedback from the board about programs and challenges.
